Master William D. Valdes, started
studying Judo, at the early age of 5 in Havana, Cuba. In 1968 when he
arrived in the United States, he began to study U.S.A. Goju, under
Sensei Alex Xevidra, and Grand Master Peter Urban earning his 1st Black
Belt. Mr. Valdes entered the military in 1974 where he was stationed in
Korea. In Korea Master Valdes studied Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do. In
1976 Master Valdes won light weight sparring championship at the
Kukkiwon. Master William Valdes was awarded the rank of 5th Dan in Goju-Ryu in 1989. He is a member of the Third Generation Martial Arts Association, and is a Guro in the Filipino art of Eskrima, teaching largo mano, Pambuan Arnis Tulisan Caballero, the whips, spada y daga, solo baston, and mano y mano. He is also a student of Grad Master Samuel Bernard 8th Dan, who is also a Student of Grand Master Ed Brown 10th Dan. Grandmaster Valdes was awarded his 8th Dan Tae Kwon Do by the United Martial Arts Society and the U.S. National Tae Kwon Do Federation and the Independent Tae Kwon Do Council.
